Add a night at Shrewsbury’s Old Market Hall Cinema to your cabin stay itinerary. It’s the perfect touch of culture and charm to complement your romantic cabin holiday in the Shropshire Hills. And the best part? You get to come home to birdsong, soft blankets, and a cabin built for slowing down.
There’s something undeniably magical about walking through a field of flowers in full bloom. After your floral adventure, the drive back to Black Rhadley Cabin takes you through rolling countryside, sleepy villages, and eventually, back to the quiet hush of the woods. It’s that perfect mix — a day of sunshine and open space, followed by an evening of birdsong, starlight, and peace.

At Black Rhadley Cabin, you can spend your mornings in the woods and your afternoons in castle towns. Whether you’re booking a romantic weekend break, a nature retreat, or just craving a slower pace, Montgomery is a beautiful part of the experience, you will step back in time!
If you’re staying at Black Rhadley Cabin, you’re probably here for the same reasons we love this corner of Shropshire — peace, nature, and space to breathe. While it’s easy to spend your whole time here nestled under the trees, wandering forest trails or watching barn owls at dusk, there are a few local gems worth pulling on your boots for. One of our favourites? Attingham Park.
Just a 35-minute drive from the cabin, Attingham Park is one of Shropshire’s most loved National Trust properties.

Read MoreWhile staying at the cabin, if you ever feel like swapping trees for a touch of town (just for a few hours), Shrewsbury is a beautiful choice — and one of my favourite places for a gentle day out is the Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery.
Housed in a gorgeous red-brick building right in the heart of town, the museum is packed with stories — from Roman relics to medieval treasures, curious fossils, and contemporary art. It’s the kind of place that feels both thoughtful and full of wonder. You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy it — the exhibitions are engaging, well-curated, and often beautifully personal. There's something lovely about stepping into the quiet of a gallery, especially after a slow morning in nature.

The River Severn loops gently around the historic town, and paddling its calm waters gives you a whole new perspective. You can glide past weeping willows, spot herons on the banks, and soak in views of Shrewsbury’s stunning architecture as you float beneath its old stone bridges. It's peaceful, fun, and surprisingly grounding — even with a few wonky steering moments!
Canoe hire is available right in the town centre and is suitable for all abilities (no white-water drama here — just slow, scenic paddling). You can choose anything from a short one-hour trip to a full day out, stopping off for a riverside picnic or popping into town for lunch.
It’s a lovely way to reconnect — whether you’re going solo for some meditative time on the water, or sharing a few laughs with a partner or friend as you work out which way is actually forwards. Don’t worry — they’ll give you a quick intro if it’s your first time.
Afterwards, head back to the cabin, maybe a little tired in the arms but full of river air and new memories. Light a fire, make a cuppa, and let the wild peace of the woods welcome you home again.

Read MoreWell worth leaving the cabin behind for a few hours if you can tear yourself away! Take a wonderful trip out to visit Stokesay’s moated manor house, timber-framed gatehouse and parish church are a glorious collection of treasures bypassed by time.
Though ‘builded like a castle’, Stokesay was really a lightly defended mansion. Tree-ring dating proves that work was completed by 1291, and Stokesay has changed very little since.
There’s an absorbing audio tour.
Just outside the castle, the dog-friendly cottage tearoom is open to all. It has an outdoor play space and outdoor seating with views of the Welsh Border hills.
